The boy's varsity basketball team kicked off their season a few days ago and they are off to a good start. They began their year at the Vinita tournament posting a 2-1 record with their only loss coming to a very talented Paul's Valley team. The wins came against 5a district opponent Grove and 4a Miami. These wins came convincing fashion as both games ended with 30 point wins for the boys. Will Jones was also name to the all tournament team in a tournament that was full of great players.
During the tournament the team held all three opponents to less than 30% from the field which is a crazy stat. They also took a combined 15 charges in those games as well. Coach Nolan spoke about the team and said "if we continue to play defense likes this we will be a tough out for most teams. "
Since the tourney the boys played their first district game against East Central and came away with another double digit victory. Like I said they are off to a good start. If you get a chance to get out and watch this team you will see two things guaranteed. Number one we will be smaller than our opponent. Number two you will watch us out hustle our opponent. The one thing you always get from a Coach Nolan Zebra Team is hustle. They play defense like their lives depend on getting a stop. They run the floor on a fast break as if a tsunami is bearing down on them. It is a fast paced, exciting game to watch, and that is coming from a wrestling coach. So get out and watch these boys the 21st at Tahlequah, or on January 5th at home against Collinsville. You will not be disappointed.
