It's a CRUSH of a candy gram! Our WRJH counselors are selling "crush grams" for Valentine's Day! Buy one for a friend, a teacher, a parent, or even your crush! They will be selling the crush grams during lunch the week of February 5-9.

Students are working to understand one step equations using addition and subtraction. Equations can be confusing at first because you do the opposite of what you see. These students spent the day practicing getting used to doing the opposite by making a chain of questions and answers. Students were able to work in partner groups to encourage cooperative learning.
Those tricky equations can be tough to wrap your head around at first, but it sounds like these students are tackling them in a pretty creative way! Good job, Ms. Phariss!

It was like stepping back in time to the 1960's and the era of greased back hair, leather jackets, and white t-shirts~students dressed up as a soc or a greaser after reading the book "The Outsiders". What a great way for students to immerse themselves in the story and gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and social dynamics of that era.

6th graders in Mrs. Boyd's class are rising up with HOT AIR BALLOONS! Building and launching hot air balloons is no small feat, taking a lot of teamwork, problem solving, and scientific know-how. But it's also a lot of FUN! From planning and designing to constructing and testing, there's lots of hands- on learning involved!

Recycling complete...followed by a polar bear TREAT! 🍦
Students in Mrs. Esau's class began a recycling project this year. Classes set out their recycling each week and students go around the school and pick it up. They take it to the recycling center and distribute it to the appropriate container. Afterward, they got a special treat from our favorite ice cream place!

ZAP enrollment begins January 31st! This is the high school enrollment process for our 8th graders. During the following dates, 8th grade will begin learning about the high school procedures and expectations, selecting their core classes, and selecting their elective classes. THESE ARE VERY IMPORTANT DATES for our 8th graders! Attendance is crucial for your student to get the important information (and classes) they need for high school. These meetings will take place during school hours with students and their advisors.
Jan. 31- students will meet their ZAP advisors and learn about expectations and procedures
Feb. 21- core classes enrollment
Mar. 6- elective classes enrollment

Distance Learning Days... a game changer for "snow days"! Teachers posted assignments, hosted google meets video calls for students, and communicated with their students on how to do assignments during the snow day. It's a pretty cool way to keep learning going when in-person classes aren't possible. 💻❄

In Mrs. Newbury's High School Physical Science class, students created paper cars to protect eggs in a crash! Students then analyzed and discussed the factors contributing to the success or failure of their designs.

A school field trip to the Will Rogers Memorial Museum was a real eye - opener for one of Mrs. Esau's students. After strolling through the exhibits and learning all about Will Rogers' life as a cowboy, humorist, and entertainer, Caleb Elliott decided he wanted to be like Will! He visited the museum again with family and not only did he like it even more, the museum thought he was pretty special, too! So much that they put him and his story in one of their brochures! Who knows, maybe he will inspire other young people to visit the museum and learn about Will Rogers' legacy!

How do you incorporate a fitness routine into PE class during the holidays? By doing the 12 days of FITMAS! 💪🏼
Students in PE did jumps, planks, lunges and squats- all with a festive twist! Doing burpees to the beat of "Jingle Bells" and lunges to "Deck the Halls" kept students engaged and motivated during the last month of the semester!
