"The Three Sisters"
Roosa's Native American Club learned about the traditional ways of gardening for Native Americans. Corn offers a structure for the beans to climb. The beans, in turn, help to replenish the soil with nutrients. The large leaves of squash and pumpkin vines provide living mulch that conserves water, provides weed control, and keeps small animals from destroying the crop. Students made mosaics to represent the three sisters and what each plant's role is in sustainable gardening.
