Ms. Golbek's Environmental Science class is diving deep into a hands-on lesson that explores the interconnectedness of plants, water distribution, and seasonal changes. As part of the lesson, students took to the school grounds to collect fallen leaves, repurposing them for a creative and educational project. After gathering the leaves, students worked together to identify the different types and species, recalling key lessons about the structure and function of leaves. To give their findings a lasting impact, the students then applied their knowledge in an inventive way by transferring leaf impressions onto different pieces of clothing, turning nature into wearable art. This unique project not only reinforced their understanding of plant biology and ecology but also encouraged students to think about the real-world connections between environmental science and everyday life while also promoting sustainability.

Claremore FFA kicked off the holiday season with their Annual Chapter Thanksgiving Dinner. The event brought together students, families, and staff for a heartwarming evening filled with delicious food and great company. It was an opportunity for the entire Claremore FFA community to come together, share a meal, and enjoy each other’s company in a spirit of gratitude and camaraderie. From turkey and mashed potatoes to pumpkin pie, the feast was a true highlight, showcasing not only the chapter’s culinary skills but also the strong friendships that unite them.

There is a place for everyone at Claremore Public Schools and getting involved in all of it was on her mind since she was a little girl!

Our junior students recently had the opportunity to visit Northeastern State University, where they were able to explore the diverse academic opportunities the university offers. During the visit, they toured the campus, including academic facilities and the university’s dormitories. One of the most memorable moments of the trip was when students were able to touch the famous Sequoyah statue, a beloved campus tradition. Legend has it that touching the statue brings good luck, and a few of our student athletes eagerly embraced this opportunity, hoping to carry a little extra good fortune with them as the continue in the football playoffs. This visit was an eye-opening experience for our students as they begin to think about their academic paths and the possibilities that await them at the collegiate level.

Last week, many of our students proudly participated in the Claremore Veterans' Day Parade, taking part in a meaningful tribute to honor the brave individuals who served in our armed forces. In addition, the Claremore NJROTC played an integral role in the community's Veterans' Day observances, providing a colorguard for assemblies and assisting in a flag retirement ceremony.

🦃 Just a reminder that CPS will be closed next week, November 25-29, 2024, for Thanksgiving Break 🦃

A couple weeks ago, our seniors hit another major milestone on their path to graduation with CPR training. While the rest of the school was focused on Pre-ACT/ACT testing, our seniors spent the day diving into essential topics like college planning, FAFSA preparation, and more. After such an important morning of learning, they were given the chance to unwind and make lasting memories with a variety of fun activities, including karaoke, coloring, and even a staff vs. student 3-on-3 basketball game. A big thank you to the Army National Guard for providing the CPR training to our seniors and helping make the day both meaningful and memorable!

One of CHS’s most cherished traditions is when football players invite staff members to wear their jerseys for the day. This heartfelt gesture is a way for the players to honor those who have made a lasting impact on their lives. For our staff members, being asked to represent a student in this way is not only a tremendous honor but also a meaningful reminder of the special bonds we build. It’s a tradition that celebrates both the student-athletes and the educators who play a crucial role in shaping their lives.

Ms. Golbek's and Mrs. Bright's environmental science classes were able to visit a work of art in nature last week when a tree was struck by lightning right here in our community. The lightning strike exposed the inner heartwood of the tree and made for an intriguing lesson on tree anatomy, animal habitats, and the effects of weather on an ecosystem. Thank you to the community member who reached out about this amazing wonder.

Our jazz band students traveled to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah to attend the Oklahoma Jazz Educators Annual Fall Workshop. The students attended masterclasses with clinicians from all over the country covering topics such as: All-State jazz audition music, improvisation, and the swinging rhythm section. Our students also got to watch the NSU Jazz Ensemble rehearse and perform. This was a rewarding experience for our students to get a taste of what being a musician at a college is like, and to grow fellowship with students from other schools across Northeast Oklahoma.
