The second Friday in May is #schoolprday, also called National School Communicators Day. A day where schools recognize the work behind the scenes of those who tell our school's story, share celebrations, and keep us informed.
Yesterday we celebrated the team behind the communications curtin. Our Communications Specialists or as some often refer to them, "the Facebook lady" or "the website lady" or because they play many roles at their site it could be the "front desk lady", the "library lady", the "camera lady"... you get the picture (see what I did there?).
As a team, we want to thank all of our Claremore Public School staff, students, and community, for sharing their #CPSZEBRAPRIDE through excellent pictures, updates, and content. For without you, there wouldn't be a story to tell.

Thank you, ladies, for everything you do to connect, communicate, celebrate, and create a partnership with our CPS families and the community.

Today we got together as a staff to celebrate everything that the 2020-2021 school year has brought us.
There have been so many accomplishments, and there are so many things that we are thankful for. Below are some of them.

"If nothing in the world changed, there wouldn't be butterflies.."
Kindergarten students have been learning about life cycles for the past few weeks and to enrich learning, Mrs. Stadler's class was able to observe caterpillars turn into a chrysalis and then into a butterfly!
The class then had the opportunity to release their butterflies into the wild.

We have some exciting news to share!
Our Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Troyer, wrote a grant to the Claremore Public Schools Foundation to give our fiction section a re-fresh! She found out just a couple of weeks ago that her grant was fully funded!!
Because of this grant, Mrs. Troyer will be able to add more than 400 new books to the Claremont Library! We are so excited!

Through the Skype a Scientist Program, our 2nd graders in Mrs. Howell's class were able to hear from Dr. Burkhardt, an animal scientist. Dr. Burkhardt is from Edmond, but currently lives in Germany.
Students learned many facts such as:

-> how Dr. Burkhardt studies different medicines to keep chickens healthy.

The end of the school year can be stressful for students. Even young ones. That's why, for this #wellnesswednesday, we want to focus on some ways to help calm the end of the year stress for your young student.
Here are 5 strategies for closure and transition found at edutopia.org:
1. Symbolic Gifts
"A token such as a coin, stone, shell or any object shared with another...this would be a great resource for transition as students leave their classes..."
2. Photos and Affirmations
"Create an affirmation photo...with a positive affirmation to be embraced long after the school year ends."
3. Planting and Nurturing
"Design a seed-planting celebration...students can take care of their small plants all summer long knowing they're caregivers..."
4. Remember to Breathe
"Calming the brain’s stress response is critical to positive emotion, clarity of thought, and emotional regulation. When we use breathing or focused attention exercises to quiet the emotional center of our brains where fight, flight, and fear reside, we are activating neural circuits in the brain that strengthen the flow of oxygen and glucose through the prefrontal cortex"
5. The Family Tree
"Create a family tree with the students from your child's class. This helps them visualize that their class is connected - even through the seasons of life."

Mr. Robson and Mr. Mosier came to visit Claremont last week to look in on our Art and Music classes! Mr. Robson has been a very generous donor for Claremore Public schools, and we love to show off what we have done with those donations!
