Our 1st graders are becoming graphing experts! They’re learning how to collect data, organize information, and make fun graphs to show what they know! Graphing helps us spot patterns, compare favorites, and even solve real-world problems—like figuring out the most popular snack in class! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Our after-school STEM Club is having a blast learning how to build roller coasters! Did you know roller coasters don’t have engines? They use gravity and energy to zoom up, down, and around loops! Engineers design every twist and turn to make sure the ride is fun and safe. Our students are using their creativity and problem-solving skills to build their own mini coasters—who knows, we might have some future theme park designers in the making! 🎡🎢 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Research mode: ON! Mrs. Roller's class dove into the world of research and discovered how fun it can be! 🐧✨ Students teamed up to explore fascinating facts about penguins using one of their favorite iPad apps, EPIC. They gathered their top three facts and jotted them down in their notes, getting ready to turn those into an amazing written page later this week. Learning + teamwork + penguins = a pretty epic day! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Chef Ryan stopped by Catalayah Elementary, and this time he brought quinoa for everyone to try! Did you know quinoa is a superfood packed with protein, fiber, and vitamins? It’s a nutritious grain that’s as healthy as it is tasty! The students absolutely loved it—so much that Chef Ryan ran out of samples! We always look forward to Chef Ryan’s visits, where he inspires us to explore new foods and flavors. Thank you for keeping our taste buds excited! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Fox's class dove into an exciting story about students building go-carts, and then they got to bring the story to life! Using STEM kits, these creative problem-solvers built their own model go-carts and even got the axles spinning! But they didn’t stop there—paper airplanes took flight as they explored engineering and design. Learning + Fun = The perfect combo! 🛠️✂️ What a fantastic way to inspire young engineers! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Our Sweetheart Dance is just around the corner, and we’ve got some details to share! The dress code is entirely up to you—feel free to dress fancy or keep it casual, as long as it’s school-appropriate. Please note that tennis shoes are required in the gym. This dance is exclusively for current Catalayah students, and concessions will be cash only. Mrs. James' kindergarten class did an activity called "Write the Room". Students went around the room writing sight words they found and then read them to me. We are so proud of their progress! 🥰✏️📋 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

After school, our Native American Club explored the importance of beans in Native American history and culture. 🌱 From identifying different varieties to learning their role in traditional diets, our students are deepening their connection to the past while celebrating their heritage. 🌊🦈 Shark Bite Alert! 🦈🌊 Our 3rd graders dove into the world of books today with a fin-tastic library genre game called Shark Bite! From mysteries to fantasies, these readers swam through genres and escaped the sharks with their book smarts. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Hall’s class read the book Martin Luther King Jr. Day! They talked about who MLK was and what he did! Then they made this fun craft sharing what dreams they have and how we will show kindness! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Cowboy Bart stopped by yesterday!!! Not only did he talk about Will Rogers and do some really cool rope tricks, but he and Mrs. Daniels also told us all about the diorama contest for 3rd graders. Word Surgery in Action! Last week, Mrs. Griffin and her Student Doctors scrubbed in for an important operation—performing surgery on words! The patient words were carefully stitched together to form contractions, and afterward, they were sent to the Contraction Recovery Room for some much-needed rest. The students had an absolute blast learning about contractions in such a creative and hands-on way. Who knew grammar could be this much fun?! Way to go, Mrs. Griffin and her word surgeons! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Ms. Loyd’s 5th graders have been hard at work learning about the effects of pollution on our Earth. Each pair of students delivered thoughtful presentations to share their knowledge and insights. In addition, they’ve been diving into the wonders of the solar system! As part of their studies, they conducted a hands-on lab to explore the apparent brightness of the stars.
