Leading Ladies of CHS

As Women in History month comes to a close, we are taking the time to celebrate some of the Leading Ladies at CHS who have made a positive impact in our school system.

Caroline Cowherd  - National Honor Society President 

Q - When did you become a CPS student & what schools have you attended at CPS? 

I became a CPS student in 8th grade. Since then, I have attended Will Rogers Junior High and Claremore High School. 

Q - What extracurricular involvement & leadership positions (clubs & sports):

Q - Why is it important to get involved and make a difference in high school? 

Being involved in high school provides you with the opportunity to build relationships and leave something behind for future zebras. Getting involved can encourage you to expand beyond your comfort zone and learn more about yourself and your interests. 

Q - If you had to create a 140 character tweet to describe you what would it be?   

I only live by three rules: live life to the fullest, choose kindness, and dessert first.

Q - If you knew me better you’d know I …

I spend all my free time reading, eating chocolate, or dancing. I am very passionate about my studies and strive to achieve perfection in everything I do. I have read every book in our school's library and have tried everything on the Chick-fil-a menu. 

Q - What is your favorite piece of pop culture and why (book, movie, tv-show, podcast, band, social media influencer)?  

Zach Bryan. The musician is from Oologah, and his songs often reference the Rogers area or Oklahoma as a whole. His music reminds me how proud I am to live in Oklahoma. 

Q - What are your dreams for your future? 

In the fall, I will be attending the University of Central Oklahoma and double majoring in forensic science and psychology. With my degrees, I will pursue my dreams of working in the FBI.

Q - What has been your most significant accomplishment during your tenure at CPS?

My most significant accomplishment while at CPS has been being President of the National Honor Society. As president, I have had the opportunity to organize and participate in events that benefit the community, such as the Hope Race for Education and Zebras United Against Cancer. To make such an impact on my community as president of the NHS has been such a fulfilling experience, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have done so.

Q - What legacy do you want to leave here at CHS? 

I want to leave behind a legacy that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Whether it's something you have planned for years, or you're trying something new, you have the ability to be successful. I also want to leave behind a legacy that women are strong leaders who continue to change the world. 

Q - What do you love about Claremore Public Schools?

I love and appreciate the staff and spirit of Claremore Public Schools. When I moved here in the 8th grade, I was immediately welcomed to the CPS family. Teachers and counselors provided me with resources to ensure I was prepared in my education and extra curriculars. The faculty at Claremore work hard to provide a safe environment for their students to pursue their education and take pride in their achievements. Along with the faculty, I love CPS inclusion of all students and the efforts they take to support them. 

Q - A Zebra is a very unique mascot - what does it mean to you to be a Claremore Zebra?  

Being a Zebra is so much more than a mascot. Being a zebra is about the relationships we form and the impact we make in our schools. To be a zebra is to show pride in Claremore and be involved in the community.

Q - Who is a mentor or role model who inspired you & why? 

My mom has been the biggest inspiration in my life. She models grace and compassion towards everyone she meets. Her strength when overcoming obstacles while juggling life encourages me to strive to be like her. I love my mom and am forever grateful for the impact she has made on my life, and the lessons she taught me.

Q - Who has been the most influential teacher in your career and why? 

During my time at Claremore High School, I was blessed to have not one but two teachers who made an impact on my high school career, Ms. Warden and Mrs. Brace. Ms. Warden has been my dance coach all 4 years at the high school. Her continuous support and encouragement have helped me navigate through high school and battle difficult times. Mrs. Brace has been my National Honor Society advisor. Mrs. Brace is the epitome of hard work and perseverance. She has taught me all aspects of business while also teaching me how to be a strong loving, successful woman. I could not be more grateful to have teachers like Ms. Warden and Mrs. Brace who love and care about their students and strive to make an impact in their lives. 

Q - How has attending school through a pandemic grown you positively as a person? 

Going to school through a pandemic allowed me the chance to explore my relationships, interest, and myself as a person. It also allowed me to focus on my education and goals for the future. 

Q - What service projects (school or community) have you participated in & what were your individual contributions? 

• Recycling
• Hope Race for Education - Coordinator (Rasing over 23K for teacher grants) 
• Zebras United Against Cancer - Coordinator (Rasing over 8K for staff & students fighting cancer)
• Claremore Main Street Volunteer 
• Campus Clean-Up Day
• College Connections

Q - What service project was most meaningful to you?  

The service project that was most meaningful to me was selling shirts and powderpuff for Zebras United Against Cancer. When my little sister was diagnosed with cancer, I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those going through the same thing. I was blessed to have the opportunity to help organize and direct ZUAC’s projects for the past two years. Through these projects, we have raised money for students and faculty in the district who have or are currently fighting cancer.
