Superintendent Frazier in his office

Mr. Frazier discusses the District's approach to handling security threats and communication during incidents.

In a safety situation, Claremore Public Schools wants our families to feel reassured that we have a structured and empathetic response in place. A top priority for CPS is always the safety and well-being of your children and our staff. In any emergency, we follow protocols designed to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone involved. Mr. Frazier discussed those protocols and how you can help in this week's Fridays with Frazier.

  1. Securing the Scene: The immediate focus is ensuring the safety of all students and staff. CPS works quickly and closely with first responders to secure the area and prevent any further risk.

  2. Distinction Between “Secure in Place” and “Lockdown”: The school emphasizes that "secure in place" indicates a low-level threat with no imminent danger, whereas a lockdown represents a higher-level threat requiring stricter safety protocols.

  3. Investigating and Gathering Information: Once the situation is contained, CPS investigates the circumstances. Accurate details are crucial for responding appropriately and taking any additional necessary precautions. It takes time and manpower to collect all the answers during this phase, but we want to ensure the information we share is correct.

  4. Responsible Use of Social Media: The school encourages the community to avoid spreading misinformation during incidents and to rely on official updates from the school or law enforcement rather than unverified social media posts.

  5. Communicating with Parents: Everyone wants to be informed as quickly as possible. While the priority is managing the situation and ensuring everyone is safe, the District will communicate externally once we have verified the information. Please understand that due to the involvement of minors, we are often limited in the details we can share to protect their privacy and the integrity of the investigation.

See Something - Hear Something - Say Something (to a trusted adult, school staff member, or law enforcement). You can also use the StopIt app.

CPS asks for your patience and cooperation during these moments. It is essential that first responders and staff can focus fully on the task at hand without the added challenge of managing extra people on site or tracking down misinformation, which could hinder response efforts.

CPS deeply values your trust in us. The District is committed to safeguarding your children and ensuring clear communication during emergencies.
