Our #MondayMotivation comes from writer and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou, "The more you know of your history, the more liberated you are."
What's your favorite Maya Angelou quote?

What an outstanding award for our program, school, and community. Countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears by coaches, players, parents, and many members from our great city recognized by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. Legendary Legion Field was named as one of the top high school fields in the nation. This award is for anyone who has ever held a rake or paintbrush, pulled the tarp, flew their helicopter over the field to dry it 🤷♂️, or donated their time and/or money!

This week's Fridays With Frazier features another finalist for the District Teacher of the Year, Andrea Ratcliff.
Mrs. Ratcliff is an Art Teacher at Westside Elementary and also oversees the yearbook. Although she started teaching in 2006, she joined CPS in 2017.
Mrs. Ratcliff and her husband, Chris, have two children who attend school at Westside and WRJH.
She holds certification as a Secondary Principal (5-12), Elementary Principal (PK-8), Art (PK-12), and Physical Education/Health/Safety (PK-12).
She taught and/or coached students from ages 4 to 24 throughout her career.
She had an article published in a national magazine covering PLCs' principles and how they apply to sports teams.
When asked what was her why and she told us, "The students, always the students. They are my why. The students, their enthusiasm and their creative minds."
She felt an immediate draw at Westside when she brought her daughter in for a school tour. Westside felt like a place of belonging, a place of potential, and a place to grow professionally. Always giving credit to her fellow peers and administrator, she is also thankful for coworkers who have made the move from Arkansas a warm, welcoming environment & a place to grow as a teacher.
Favorite Quote - "Your life is your life don't let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them. take them. you can't beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you." -- by Charles Bukowski

MLK day is a perfect opportunity to discuss the principle of equality and how we should treat all people. Mrs. Ward's first graders had an object lesson about how things can look differently on the outside but be the same on the inside using eggs. She then asked them how MLK wanted everyone to be treated, and here are some of their answers?

A dynamic high school science curriculum is designed to spark interest in the fields of science and medicine, in addition to exposing students to exciting careers. Mr. McQueen's Biomed class at CHS, completed a blood-testing lab. This interactive, hands-on learning experience gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the fascinating field of hematology.

The power of the mind is becoming increasingly more apparent. That's why we focus our #WellnessWednesday activity on mindset development, meditation, and mindfulness.
Our mindset forms the foundation and plays a significant role in our overall success and happiness. That's why it's so vital for us to find ways to improve our mindset. Failing to do so puts you at a significant disadvantage, as this may allow your mindset to hold you back.
We encourage you to start daily affirmations with your child! Daily affirmations are a great way to build confidence in kids!

WRJH and CHS competed in their first robotics event of the year; it was a huge success!
With 24 teams participating, the competition was tough, but our crews were formidable opponents. The experience allowed students to plan, implement, compare, and ultimately evaluate their robot and it's performance. All the students eagerly anticipate the upgrades to their robots. Winning is fun, but learning is forever.

CHS GEAR UP will award over 13K in college fee scholarships to CHS students enrolled in concurrent classes in the Fall of 2020 and/or Spring of 2021.
This special assistance is a one time opportunity. Students already in concurrent classes have their tuition waived in a cooperative agreement with local colleges. This GEAR UP grant will result in CHS students who pass those classes receiving FREE college credit.
Claremore High School has 30 students taking advantage of the concurrent agreement and will leave high school with college credit.
