"I feel to make a difference in a child's life truly; we need to love what we are teaching. It took a year of teaching art before I experienced the explosion of creativity. It's true! After consistently engaging in art for about a year, I found it pushed my ability to build things, and my critical thinking skills were to a whole new level. I would find myself overwhelmed with things I could make and how I could achieve my goal. It built my confidence, and creating in my own world continues to enhance my life in so many ways. This personal experience is what led me to LOVE sharing the creative process with my students. Engaging in art is so powerful! It helps students develop their personal voices and ways to talk about their art with their peers. I observe this in the classroom every day. I also love how art positively affects our mood, making us happier, calmer, or even inspired to do something else. I know kids love art because before they even make it to art, they ask me every where they see me, whether it's in the halls, cafeteria, at the grocery store, or when I am on duty, "What are we doing in art this week"? They simply can not wait until class. Teaching art has added purpose and meaning to my life, and I am so grateful that being Claremont's art teacher is part of my journey as an educator." #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

On this #TechTipTuesday, I will demonstrate how to turn off Google Drive’s Quick Access option. Quick Access is handy when working with the same file, over and over again, but at times can get confusing or clutter the drive’s workspace. We will discuss how to turn off this feature to let you focus on what matters most - the folders and files in your Google Drive. Mrs. Bowen's 5th grade class at Claremont showed their knowledge of Coordinate Planes through a Build Your Own City activity. Students had to plot points for several different locations in their city. They also had to identify what the ordered pair for the location was as well as the quadrant each location was located. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

My children are grown now, but whenever they were small, we read Dr. Seuss books each night at bedtime. We had a subscription to the Dr. Seuss book club and we really enjoyed reading all of those books. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? Picking an all-time favorite book is a very difficult thing to do. Most often, my favorite book is whichever one I am currently reading. I do, however, have a favorite genre, which is historical fiction. I recently read "The Light in Hidden Places", by Sharon Cameron. Though it is fiction, it is based on real events and is set during the Holocaust. I highly recommend it. I read a lot as a child, and some of my favorite books included, The "Ramona" collection, by Beverly Cleary, "Charlotte's Web", by E. B. White, "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls, and "The Wizard of Oz'', by Frank L. Baum. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? I am currently reading "Class Act" by Jerry Craft. It is the sequel to his book "The New Kid", which won the 2020 Newbery Award. "The New Kid" is the first graphic novel to win that award and I enjoyed it so much that I'm excited to read the next book. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The past few weeks have been tough on my art II kids; they are "SO TIRED OF MAKING DOTS," but I snapped pictures of their projects and showed them, their eyes lit up, and then said, "THAT'S SO COOL," and they're proud of themselves. I have the privilege of being their educator; that lightbulb moment when they see their hard work pay off is my "why." - Ms. Mercer, CHS Art Teacher. ..................................................................................................................................................... All of their work is done with a .5mm black ink pen. You are looking at hours of work and THOUSANDS of dots. Oh, and one proud teacher! It's Always a Great Day to be a Zebra. ***No teenagers were harmed in the making of this artwork - even though they acted like it was painful *** #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Books that make them want to check that book out immediately after I've read it. Virtual Kindergarten students come in 1 at a time to do their Claremore Assessment Portfolio. The portfolio is a collection of skills Kindergarteners need to master by the end of Kindergarten. We use these assessments to evaluate the student on their report cards. We work on writing the alphabet in uppercase and lowercase, identifying sounds, writing sentences, and counting to 100 by 1's and 10's! Jaylee is working on her assessment book and doing a great job! #ClaremoreVirtualSchool #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
