Claremore Public Schools is reinforcing its commitment to leadership development by participating in the impactful Leadership Rogers County (LRC) program. The Leadership Rogers County program provided a valuable opportunity for two distinguished site administrators from Claremore Public Schools to grow as leaders within the educational system and the larger community.
Mrs. Kellye Shuck, Catalayah Principal, and Mr. Darren Grisham, Claremore High School Assistant Principal, were part of the 2023 LRC cohort and shared their insights.
Mrs. Kellye Shuck emphasized the program's exposure to our community's people and businesses. "Each time we met, we visited companies and organizations and learned about their contribution to making our community thrive. Knowledge is the first step towards understanding our community, and this experience allows us as educators to build relationships, expand opportunities for our students, and meet the needs of our community. It’s a win-win."
Mr. Darren Grisham echoed the sentiment, highlighting the program's insights and opportunities. Participants gained firsthand appreciation for Claremore's support network, spanning businesses, nonprofit organizations, industries, law enforcement, first responders, healthcare providers, and educational institutions. Every member in the LRC represented one of these groups, a collaboration from all faucets of Claremore. "One of my biggest takeaways was the opportunity to forge strong bonds with these leaders and connect what we are all doing for the greater good of the Claremore Community," shared Mr. Grisham.
After meeting with the non-profit agencies, the cohort chose to take one of the organizations on as their philanthropy project. The class chose the Claremore Adult Day Center. Together, their class raised money for the Center through a golf tournament last April. The funds raised from this tournament went towards repairing outdoor equipment damaged from previous storms.
This upcoming year, Mrs. Shuck and Mr. Grisham will host the education day on November 8, 2023, for the 2024 LRC Class. Last year, Catalayah Elementary hosted the LRC Class at their Rise and Shine assembly, where the attendees were "very impressed with the energy, student presentations, and overall positive way they start the day for students and staff." Mrs. Shuck even had a fellow teammate attend another Rise and Shine later in the year.
Experiences such as these foster a sense of community and collaboration from the top down that continues to impact Claremore Public Schools and the city of Claremore. We look forward to the new opportunities this year's administrators will have, the connections they will make, and the skills they will develop.
