Claremore Public Schools names a familiar face, Dr. Schuyler Adkins, the new Westside Elementary Principal!
Dr. Schuyler Adkins, former Assistant Principal at Claremont Elementary, is a familiar and well-loved face at Claremore Public Schools (CPS). He is a third-generation educator; education is in his genetics. Adkins has a highly robust resume with various experiences and backgrounds in the education field. He has been a teacher and administrator throughout his 17-year career, from elementary to the college level.
Dr. Adkins brings life, positivity, hope, heart, and empowerment to the education profession. His devotion to teaching and belief in the life-changing power of education inspired him to pursue the Westside Elementary principal position. As principal of Westside, he finds it critical to unite and ignite joy in students, teachers, and parents! His goal is to utilize his passion and leadership to cultivate an environment where students know "that they are loved and cared for by staff who believe in a culture of trust, grit, and growth mindset! I want that positive culture to be at the core of who we are and to extend beyond our school walls to involve Westside families and the greater Claremore community". His leadership style is "not a top-down approach but a collaboration among all stakeholders," building relationships to impact culture, work environment, and academics positively.
Adkins has a Bachelor of Arts from Missouri Southern State University, a Master of Music from Oklahoma City University, and a Doctorate of Education in Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision, from The University of Oklahoma. His educational achievements give him a well-rounded and discerning perspective to reach and understand all facets of the school system. His personal classroom experience, as well as his administrative roles, have given him relatable insight into all dynamics of the classroom. He firmly believes "that a principal should be a master teacher, a leader to staff and students, and an ambassador to the stakeholders within the community. I plan to embody these qualities by being a hard-working, detail-oriented, trustworthy, teachable, fair, relational, and consistent servant leader."
He has gained his Zebra Stripes and loves being a member of the CPS and Claremore family, where he looks forward to continuing to foster the community relationship within Westside. The Claremore community "is an amazing support system! Families, businesses, communities, and faith-based organizations pour into our students' lives! I plan to continue strong partnerships and foster new ones by ensuring that our community feels that they are an essential piece in the success of Westside Elementary because they are. We are stronger together!". He has worked in other schools and districts, but Claremore is where he found home due to the strong sense of family and school pride. "I absolutely love being an administrator within the Claremore district! CPS has a strong reputation for educational excellence with many diverse and enriching opportunities for students while also having a powerful sense of community pride.", he shared with us. He looks forward to the future and the success of Westside students, staff, and parents.
Dr. Adkins is married to Kendra, who is an administrator in the Oologah-Talala school system. He also has two children: Grayson, who plays basketball and golf, and Madeline, a cheerleader and singer. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and cheering on the University of Oklahoma in all sporting events! We cannot wait to see what Dr. Adkins accomplishes and the growth to come from Westside Elementary!
