Look! We have another green thumb in the building!
Mrs. Silversmith has some beautiful plants at her house. Can you believe she has 108 potted plants at her house?!?! She is kinda like a plant whisperer. Fun fact from Mrs. Silversmith- The spindly plant is great for absorbing toxins in the air like odors, fumes and the VOC formaldehyde. Spider plants are also great at increasing oxygen in the air and filtering out toxins to help you breathe easier in the evening!

Mrs. Ritter's favorite summer produce is tomatoes. She's growing her own this summer!!
Fun fact from Mrs. Ritter- the little flowers in the pictures are marigolds. They are a companion plant for tomatoes. The story is they help the tomato plants attract pollinators. That is why I panted them with my tomato plants!

Yesterday some of our amazing staff members were able to get together for our first Summer Social!!!! We enjoy getting together a couple of times during the summer to catch up with each other. I guess you can say we are a lot like the kids, we miss our friends during summer break too. Lol!!!
It was nice to have everyone together and we love that some of our retired teachers come as well!!

Mrs. Shuck said if we reached our Jump Rope for Heart goal she would let the kids tape her to the wall. The students exceeded their goal so up she went!! Mrs. Shuck is always such a good sport!!

Our PTO is wonderful. They do so much for our school, students and staff!! Some of the things they do are the Carnival, candy grams, Santa Shop, Santa Pictures, they also provide breakfast and lunches for our staff throughout the year and help with Holiday Meals at the school.

Mr. Hughes had a few 4th graders come and "assist" with Kindergarten PE. I'm not sure who had more fun, the 4th graders or the kindergarteners.

IT'S NATIONAL MASCOT DAY!!!!
Claremore High School football team became known as the “Zebras” in the 1920s when the football received new stripped jerseys; at one of the games, a spectator noted that “they look like a bunch of zebras,” and the name stuck. Did you know those first stripes uniforms were purple and gold......
In 1930 the superintendent of schools Homer C. Heard was trying to keep costs down when it came time to order new uniforms again. He faced the economic situation by ordering cheaper red shirts and white khaki pants. Red and white remain as Claremore's school colors today.
The Zebra has been a mainstay. Mascots like the Tigers and the Cardinals and the Eagles can be found all over the sports landscape. Claremore is the ONLY school with the Zebra Mascot!!

We had more helpers earlier this week!!!
Catalayah has a lot of moving going on this summer. Thankfully we have had several helpers come and help us move furniture and other things.
Huge shout out to these kids for coming to help on their summer break!!! They got A LOT of work done!

Our very own Ms. Henry got the chance to go to a week long professional development in Alabama called Space Academy for Educators. She met educators from all over the the United States and even one from Australia. Once there she did astronaut training simulators and did activities made to help promote learning for the classroom.
Which type of astronaut training would you want to do?
Ms. Henry’s favorite was the MAT (multi-axis trainer) the sphere. “I didn’t think I would like it and I was super nervous. I still did it anyway and it turned out to be my favorite thing, I even did it twice!” - Ms. Henry

Her activities included:
-Building Model Rockets
-Experienced 3Gs
-Listened to David Hitt talk about Skylab and got a signed book by him.
-Then of course listened and talked with SpaceX Astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor as an educator herself at the collegiate level she understood how important it was for us to get pictures for our students. She won her way to space through her art and poetry. She was also the first black female to pilot a space vehicle and the 4th black female in space.
-We had our first mission, I worked in and outside of the ISS. PAYCOM also enjoyed us doing the macarena for them.

- We saw Homer Hickam and Dr. Proctor talking and it was funny because they were both so excited to see each other.

How COOL!!! We are so excited Ms. Henry got to go on this trip. We can't wait to see what she brings to her classroom this year.
