Superintendent’s Newsletter

February, 2012

Seems like just the other day I was commenting on how the school year was well underway and the Spring Term would soon be upon us. With the mild weather and zero snow days, it may truly be a spring-like semester.

Will Rogers Junior High recently hosted guest speakers from the business community for our Oklahoma Scholars Program. This program encourages students to take a more rigorous program of study at the high school so by the time they graduate they will be both college ready and workforce ready. This particular event targeted eighth graders as they will soon be selecting their courses at the high school. We are grateful to our community leaders who spent their morning engaging our students. The students and staff appreciate the interaction and the lessons these individuals shared.

Parents of eighth grade students please note that within the next two weeks your student will be bringing home a packet for next year’s high school enrollment. Students have been assigned a ZAP advisor to help guide you through the process.

Claremore High School has three senior football players that have been offered scholarships and publicly committed to their college on National Signing Day. Brandon McCullough and Chase Talbert signed with the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond and Dylan Foxworth signed with The University of Tulsa. Congratulations to these student-athletes!

Once again Stuart Roosa Elementary School has been designated as a Great Expectations Model Demonstration School by the state Great Expectations Foundation. Roosa has been a model school for Great Expectations for ten consecutive years. Congratulations to the students and staff at Stuart Roosa Elementary School.

Finally, Mr. David Isenbart is being recognized for his work in technology education through the student’s performance and his professional activities by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. Mr. Isenbart teaches technology education at Will Rogers Junior High.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a continuation of the mild winter and please remember to stay connected with happenings around Claremore Public Schools by visiting our website www.claremore.k12.ok.us
